What to do now.

Here are some jobs for the week ahead to make sure your garden looks great for this spring:

🌿 Deadhead any spring flowering bulbs that are past their best - don’t let them waste energy on making seeds. Snip off the old flowers and they’ll look tidier for longer.

🌿 Sow hardy annual seeds outside in beds or pots - order in or check out your local supermarket, there are all sorts of wild or garden varieties that can be used to add colour to any space.

🌿 Prune any Hydrangeas that are still carrying last years flowers - cut the flower stem back to a pair of buds. Be careful not to knock off any new buds.

🌿 Weed, Weed, Weed - if you’ve got one, use a hoe to cut the tops off of annual weeds by running it over the top few millimetres of soil; if not pull them out by hand. Use a hand trowel or fork to lift out any stubborn perennial weeds.

🌿 Scarify your lawn - it was a tough winter for lawns. It’ll be hard to find a scarifier to rent this spring; so if you haven’t got a scarifier, get out a wire-toothed rake and rake out any moss or thatch (dead grass). This’ll give your lawn a new lease of life (and you a great workout). If the lawn’s looking a little bare then sprinkle over some grass seed (great to do even if it’s not looking bare).

Enjoy the great weather, and keep an eye out for our future posts 🌞
